From the sunlit edges of a windswept wave to the ebb and flow of a gentle tide upon an untouched beach, Arie Yosef uses oil paint, skill, and passion to capture all the subtleties and strength of the ocean on canvas.

Born in 1971 in Israel, Arie grew up on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in a large, artistic family.  Thus, Arie has always had a deep connection with seascapes and beaches, as well as a strong artistic passion.  Arie began painting at the age of six and, apart from lessons from his uncle, Arie is self-taught.  This uncle, a well-established fine artist in Europe, instructed Arie in the basics of color, composition, and technique, laying the groundwork for Arie’s developing skill as an oil painter.  Beyond these basics, Arie learned, and continues to learn, by observing and experiencing the ocean in its many forms and moods.

........"The ocean is the most fascinating subject to paint because it reflects light in so many dizzyingly complex ways,” Arie explains.

“The waves symbolize one rising in life in every aspect, while the sea as a whole represents constant renewal and relentless power.”

Arie’s passion for his work is intense.  Arie usually paints six days a week.  Due to the drying time necessary for work in oils, Arie has as many as six paintings in the works at any given time.  His style is photo-realism, although the beauty and intensity of his colors and details lend a fantastical air to his paintings.  Each painting is imbued with a uniquely powerful and moving emotion.

Arie now lives California lives with his wife and daughter.  Although Arie’s dedication to his painting gives him little time for other activities, he finds time to spend with his family, who are very supportive of his passion.
